Our Men’s Group

A little more than five years ago, the men of First Congregational Church decided they needed some time just for “male bonding”.  Re-claiming the name from an older disbanded group, the Wydown Men’s Club was re-born.  (The church pantry still has some old dishes with the WMC monogram)

We meet every Wednesday morning from 7 –8 am.  Our members include an historian, a scientist, an attorney, a physician and a musician.  This sparks lively discussions that are often serious but more often irreverent with a dash of good natured nonsense thrown in.  Most often, between a half a dozen to a dozen members attend.  Breakfast, prepared by one of the participants, (you take your chances here) is included.

As a starting point, we use the lecture series from “The Teaching Company” and have discussed topics ranging from the New Testament to the Lost Gospels to the Old Testament and Mythology.

If you’d like to be “one of the guys” and discuss serious topics in a somewhat irreverent way, contact Bert Merrell at 314-406-0994 to find our more.  Or just join us on Wednesdays at 7 am upstairs on the second floor … newcomers and visitors are always welcome!

Men in Service

On the 3rd Sunday of every month, the Men’s Club has started cooking and serving breakfast at Epiphany United Church of Christ in the Benton Park Neighborhood.  The meal is open for any of the residents of the neighborhood. We begin at 7:30 and finish by 9:30.
